GUARDIAN: Ship discovered at World Trade Centre site

"The decayed hull of a ship has been unearthed 20 feet below street level at the World Trade Centre construction site, providing a glimpse into the history of Manhattan. The ship dates back at least 200 years when part of the river was filled in with debris and wooden beams in order to expand a fast-growing Manhattan."
